Christmas Dadong Roast Duck

image

image

I celebrated Christmas in Beijing eating the popular Dadong roast duck! And I can understand why this duck is so deliciously popular =Pp~

It had so many mouthwatering menu items that makes me want to eat at the restaurant everyday!

There are multiple Dadong restaurants in Beijing, but the one we went to was in Jinbao Shopping Center, 2 minutes walking distance from our hotel ^_^

I’ll post the video of our attendant cooking the wagyu beef when I get around to it.

Japanese overload

This Japanese restaurant which I choose not to name, has delicious food (pork belly & beef tataki displayed in photo) but unfortunately an insect problem…

What a shame.

Conflict in the clinic

Most jobs deal with people, and when you deal with people, you’re likely going to have workplace conflicts.

Something many people notice about the dental field is how gossipy it is… Maybe it’s the fact that the majority in each clinic is female? Either way, a colleague and I got into a conversation and started trading stories about clinics.

Here are a few of the more common conflicts found at the clinic:

Boss throws a tantrum

Now, the worst thing about having your boss chucking tantrums is just that… they’re your boss. If they were a friend or family member, I’ld smack them on the side of the head and tell them to grow up …. or maybe not, but you get the point! There’s no other way to handle it (unless you don’t mind getting the sack) but to smile and ignore their jibes directed at you.

Boss bitches about you to a patient… in front of you

The worst thing a boss could do is talk down to their staff in front of a patient. Seriously, what’s the point of that? I mean, the staff is pretty much trapped in that room with you … why make it even worse than it already is?
Do you seriously think that we enjoy being in your presence?

Doesn’t the boss realise how completely unprofessional it is to question the competency of staff in front of the patient when they’re in the middle of treatment?? It’s like the doctor saying to the nurse, “Don’t kill the patient when I’m gone” whilst she’s adjusting the patients’ IV.

If someone has worked with you for 5 freaking years and you’re still questioning their competency, then why the heck didn’t you bring it up earlier?!?

Boss discloses detailed information about you to a patient… without consent

A staff member had to take sick leave for surgery and during the whole time she was away, my boss would tell patients (in detail) why my colleague was not working regardless of whether or not the patient even asked about it. When my colleague came back to work, everyone knew.

Just because staff are obligated to tell you WHY they have to take sick leave, it does not obligate you to let the whole freaking world know too!

Colleagues playing mind games

You know the types, they’re the ones who weedle their way into everyones’ good-books and then cunningly get individuals into trouble or even sacked. You won’t even know what hit you.

I know of all the staff quitting because the practice manager has the dentist wrapped around their little finger, and oblivious to the boss, they bully other staff.

Workplace politics

I’m not very good with politics, and I do my best to avoid it like the plague. But when you’ve been approached in your work room, then there’s not much choice but to listen to the arguments. When war breaks out, I like to think of myself as Switzerland – neutral to the flaw.

Uninstalling Lookout

I’ve been installing and uninstalling lots of apps on my brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S 2 that BF bought me. And I stumbled across a little issue with uninstalling Lookout (Android Security for Mobile).

For future reference, in order to uninstall Lookout:

  1. Go to Lookout app Menu > Settings > Missing Device
  2. Uncheck Enable Better Protection
  3. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Lookout > Uninstall
I’m still not sure if there’s any point of having security on the phone since no one else seems to have it?
Nobu, Perth

Nobu
Cuisine: Japanese Fusion
Address: Burswood Entertainment Complex. Great Eastern Highway, Perth WA 6100
Web:  http://www.noburestaurants.com/perth

We decided at the very last moment to dine at the newly opened Nobu in Perth for dinner. I called up Burswood to make a booking for the night but was told it was fully booked.

We went anyway.

Fyi, Nobu is tucked behind the Spice Lounge and Atrium.

After a 10min wait in their cocktail bar and lounge area, we were seated. As each group of patrons enter, the waiter calls out a greeting in Japanese which you hear a chorus from the remaining staff. It could potentially be very impressive, but they were quite busy and a bit noisy the night we went.

Once seated we were given the drinks menu, but we were pretty hungry so we went straight for the food.

The BF ordered since he’s already eaten at Nobu in New York and Melbourne… it was dangerously done on an empty stomach. Thankfully our waiter had some initiative not to enter all our dishes!

Our meal:
Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno – 26
Prawn Creamy Spicy Sauce – Tempura – 24
*Black Cod Miso  - 46
Squid Pasta with Light Garlic Sauce – 25
Prawns with Spicy Garlic Sauce – 28
DAVID BLACKMORE WAGYU 9+ $28 per 50gm
*New Style (100gm)
Steak 3 Sauces (100gm)
Kushiyaki & Anticucho
Beef – 14
Chicken – 12

*Recommended

New Style (100gm) and Steak 3 Sauces (100gm)
Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno

We were pretty lucky to be neighboring a savvy couple and were inspired to order the Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, both of which were delicious. Highly recommend the Black Cod Miso and New Style Wagyu!!! *rant rant rant*

There was nothing to fault in any of the dishes, but we probably should have only ordered either the Squid Pasta with Light Garlic Sauce (it’s actually squid disguised as pasta) or Prawns with Spicy Garlic Sauce  since they were almost identical dishes. The Prawn Tempura Creamy Spicy Sauce was said to be popular, but we just prefer the traditional tempura…

The service was fantastic, staff were attentive and well coordinated. Better than Alure and even Rockpool Bar and Grill during their slow period. I especially enjoyed the service from our waitress who was attentive but not overbearing, answered all our questions and was helpful with our menu choices. I’m not sure why the rating is only 68% on Urbanspoon, I’ve only read good things about Nobu… maybe other restaurants are jealous?
