ASOS

Shopping just isn’t the same as it used to be…

I don’t know if it’s because of the dreaded GFC (Global Financial Crisis), the fact that I have more responsibilities, or even that I’m pickier with the things I buy. One thing I do know is that shopping in Perth sucks! Despite the stock-take sales happening, and my actively going to all these shops looking for something to buy, I only bought 4 items! And I didn’t have to fight for it!!

Even shopping in Melbourne and Sydney aren’t much better as the shops available are almost identical, the same styles and trends happening. Every item I buy in Australia is bought with difficulty because I know there is always a risk that someone else I know will wear it. I clearly remember a patient of mine coming in wearing the very SAME DRESS I bought from Melbourne! All that effort to buy something different from another state wasted due to the fact that Perthians love to travel

As mentioned in my previous post YesStyle, I had my very first online shopping experience of buying clothes!

It was a dress I found from ASOS and their free shipping Australia wide regardless of $ spurred me to make take the plunge. The delivery was supposed to be about 7 days but somehow was delayed for another week (during that time I had purchased, received and worn my items from YesStyle!).

The dress itself was pretty good although the colour on the website was duller than the actual piece – luckily it’s still something I can wear. Generally I’m not overly excited by the items on ASOS because it’s similar (if not exactly the same) to what I can get in the shops, but I’ve been eyeing a pair of jeans and a piece of jewelry on the site ever since they notified me of a further 10% off

The only thing holding me back at the moment is the fact that I have reached my credit limit and have bills to pay  Alternatively I could find jeans at YesStyle for a lower price, but the jewelry I’ll have to distract myself and hope the urge will pass…. wish me luck….

YesStyle

Just recently I had my VERY FIRST ONLINE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE (for clothes)!! That must surely be considered a milestone…

Anyhow, I’ve always known about YesAsia from back in my Kpop and Anime days. So when they opened up YesStyle I was one of the first to browse through their MASSIVE catalogue of products. But there was no appeal to me at the time, I’m the type of shopper who frequents Asia (Malaysia, Hong Kong, China) and makes the most of buying up the results of cheap labour.

How the times have changed! I had heard disastrous things about other peoples’ online shopping experiences so I didn’t expect much on the quality, fit or colours. I needed $75 to get free shipping so I combined my efforts with J… unnecessarily! My order alone was over $75 already despite not wanting to buy much on the first shipment… there were just so many pretty things that you can’t get in Perth!

The shipment was upgraded to FREE express shipping so we received our items about 3 working days later!! (my order from ASOS just couldn’t compare)

J and I were happily surprised that the items were EXACTLY what was pictured on YesStyle. The one size items which I meticulously measured all fit as expected, and the quality was of the expected standard too. Of the items ordered: 1 was too big even though I knew the size was big; 1 was too thin which I had suspected; and the other 3 were just how I wanted it to be.

I will very likely be purchasing again from YesStyle for a change in variety of clothing, and also for getting cheap buys without waiting for Boxing Day or Stock-take Sales. Added bonus that I found a US$5 coupon for purchasing before 31st Dec 2012 , just head to www.yesstyle.com.au and enter the code below to get your $5 off

Change is in the air~

There’s so much to say but so little to write…

Another year is sneakily catching up to me quickly, and I’m feeling more my age now that more and more friends are hitting a significant milestone in their lives. Is it my turn to wake up to reality? Social etiquette requires me to play my role, but is this what I want? … What else is there?

Decisions were made, actions were taken, and now the wheels are in motion despite my many doubts of leaving my comfort zone. But even as one wheel is set into motion, another one has drawn my attention, niggling at my peripheries.

It’s not the end of the world right?
Decisions can be unmade right?
Exit plan still exists… right?

One thing is for sure, change is in the air.

There’s no way to escape change, so I suppose I should beat it by changing first!

Hhmm… maybe it’s time for a new layout…

I don’t usually eat Mediterranean food, but I thought I should try Mez out at least once since I haven’t been all these years they’ve been open. The experience however left me thinking I never should have gone in the first place.

To start, we arrived to find that our booking was not written down despite having confirmed only a couple of hours before – thankfully the staff were able to accommodate us in the end. Next we decided to go with the 4 course seafood banquet – bad move.

The first course of pita bread with dips looked and tasted as if it came out of a packet, but I can’t complain much since it was quite tasty. Chilli mussels came next, and although the mussels were decently sized, they were old and chalky tasting – massive disappointment since they were the reason we chose to have the banquet (our waitress advised us mussels aren’t available elsewhere on their menu).

The main dish of seafood consisted of risotto topped with the smallest  “lobster” I’ve laid my eyes on (it looked like we were given one lobster claw sliced in half), overly deep fried calamari, 2 scallops and salad topped with creamy garlic sauce. The scallops and salad were the only decent things to eat on the plate in the end.

When we asked the waitress to clear the dish, we asked about dessert. We were told that all the deserts were  delicious and we would get a small sample of each. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when the small plate of dessert came out R and I doubtfully looked at each other and expected the worst. There was a slice of custard pastry, a ball similar to mochi, and an unidentified block all heavily coated in cocoa. The plate essentially looked like a big lump of brown. The pastry was soggy, the ball was like solid rock and the block was insignificant (i.e. I can’t remember).

Despite all that, I convinced myself that it’s worth to revisit once the memories have faded. But the second time around we’re ordering from the main menu!!
