Road Trip To Broome

Bf and I had a last minute change of plans and decided to go on a road trip over the Easter long weekend. After loading up on snacks, drinks and an eski full of ice, bf and I headed north to sunny Broome! The 612km road trip from Port Hedland to Broome had us stopping by the Pardoo and Sandfire Roadhouses.

There were a lot more cows around than I expected, and the only sight of kangaroos were the ones who weren’t so lucky in the game of chicken…

The pearling industry is what initially attracted many to Broome

Now it’s more of a cozy tourist town best known for it’s Cable Beach.

Even your car can soak up some rays!

Broome is also home to the oldest operating outdoor cinema. Bf and I went to watch Alice in Wonderland (which btw was a great watch).

It’s definitely the only time you can get distracted from the movie by planes coming in for landing, or lizards sitting on the screen

Gantheaume Point is another popular tourist hotspot…

Australian Public Toilet Map

Australian Government
www.toiletmap.gov.au

Who would spend the time mapping all the public toilets within Australia?

Our Australian Government of course . . .

I found this lost gem as I was clearing out my old emails. Something which has been kept secret but was leaked out through someone I know from within the Australian Government System <insert mysterious music>

The National Public Toilet Map might actually come in handy for non-locals aka tourists. I have to admit that the public toilet signs around Perth City are a rare sight, but there are so many restaurants, shopping complexes, fast food stores around (and plenty of bush) that I’m sure no one had too much trouble getting to a toilet.

So if you’re planning a journey anywhere within Australia, be sure to check out our National Public Toilet Map site to ensure you avoid being bitten on the ass by some random insect or wild animal =)

Australia Hits the Big Screen

The new movie Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman by Baz Luhrman has Tourism Australia hot on it’s heels. It’s good to see that Tourism Australia saw this opportunity to leverage off the Hollywood film, just to get an awareness out there in the ‘big bad world’ would make a difference.

I personally find the TV commercials which they came up with quite depressing, Click to view Billabong and Click to view Boab

It’s such a contrast with the traditional Australian advertising campaign which is usually full of blue skies and beaches like the following:

I can’t really bring myself to like the new angle because it makes Australia look like any other over worked, doped up on anti-depressant country (even if it is true).

Why did it have to be so different? Why couldn’t they just follow Telstra and Qantus in their advertising creative?

I suppose they have a huge gap to make up for when their “Where the bloody hell are you?” campaign became famous for its failure. It’s so famous that it’s been banned from some countries and there’s so many spoofs around you might miss it! I’ve even found this great video where the guys at Chaser’s War on Everything come up with alternate slogans and test it on actual tourists =D
