For Mother’s Day Dinner we went to eat at Mela Indian Sweets and Eats

Mela Indian Sweets & Eats
428 William St
Northbridge 6003
(08) 9227 7367

Mela is a pretty big restaurant already, but now they’ve extended it even more.
The new section is more modern as opposed to the casualness of the original section of the restaurant.

The curries taste fantastic, although not as spicy as we normally have it (but that was our fault for not ordering the hot ones).
The naan and paratha were fresh, so was the curry puff and donut-looking thing.
The chicken byriani is without doubt better than a lot of other byriani we’ve had, it’s still lacking that x-factor for me though…

The service was good although our naan and paratha weren’t cut like ordered, they forgot to give us a serve of papadums, and they didn’t have enough high chairs available.

At the end of the night, they gave all the mum’s in Mela a Red Long Stemmed Rose.
It was so long that it stood taller than my nephew! =D

Although I’m not much of a fan of Indian food, I would go back and eat at Mela… Maybe third time and I’m hooked?

CSI: Perth

giggle hAHa sorry, we’re not having any CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) tv drama based in Perth. The CSI: Perth that I’m talking about is the Clinical Scientific Innovative… say what? You can click away now before I bore you with my ramblings of dental conventions and what not.

The 33rd Australian Dental Congress and Exhibition in Perth is just around the corner, yaY!? I know that there’s actually not much to get excited over, I mean who wants to sit in on lectures during the weekend?

I don’t mind though, because I know that I have a long way to go before I can confidently say that I’m the best at what I’m doing.read There’s so many articles, research journals and new products, to read up on. Even after you finish one, you realise that there’s a whole stack of other articles contradicting the one you’ve just read…. sigh-glass it’s just never ending!

So anyway, I’ve looked through the Programme quite thoroughly and I have a fair idea of what I’m sitting in on (or in some cases what I’m NOT sitting in on). yawnI just wish there was a little more detail into the presentations, I’ld rather not listen in on something that bores me to tears… I think I would rather have a monotone lecturer with an interesting topic than an animated lecturer with a boring topic.

I think Sunday is the one I’m most looking forward to, geriatrics and paediatrics… not exactly sure why because those patients aren’t exactly my favourites yeahright I suppose it’s because it’s most rewarding when you finally convince the stubborn 70yo or bratty 6yo to brush their teeth. Obviously I haven’t quite mastered the right way in handling these types of patients plot

Well, hopefully the other days won’t drain my brain too much…

Cream Restaurant

cream_entree.jpg Cream is a classy little restaurant located in East Perth, which was highly recommended by a friend of a friend. I was curious, but not convinced because both my siblings hadn’t heard of it and they eat out at these types of restaurants all the time. The restaurant itself is not too difficult to find, especially with the help of GoogleMaps =)
The easiest way is to just GoogleMap search:

Cream Restaurant
Suite 2
11 Regal Pl
East Perth 6004 WA

The restaurant itself was very nicely done up, the only complaint I might have is that it was a bit too dark for my liking. If the food had been bad, I might have suspected they didn’t want their patrons finding strange things in our meals hAHa! ^_- As a group, below is a list of the dishes we ordered at Cream

All in all it was a good experience, and the bill totaled to a bit over $50 per person. Pretty good considering the range and quality of food we had. I’m no critic, but I do have my personal preferences, and I think that the food at Cream Restaurant was pretty good. Things to note:

  • The pork belly, which I ordered, had a really crisp and overly sticky skin
  • I would totally go back just for the gnocchi =P
  • The Baci Cake tasted a lot like the Beard Papa ‘Fondant au Chocolate’ I had in Beijing. It cost was a whole lot more though! cream_baby_beef.jpg
  • Baby beef main seemed very mushy. Mushy beef sitting on a pile of mash potatoes and mashed peas. It was very filling, but felt like it was more appropriate for people who don’t have teeth… But you’ve got to love the onion rings!
  • Loved the fresh scallops (they were pretty big!) but wouldn’t have paid that much for it (Freo would probably be better), I would rather have had another salmon or gnocchi dish…
  • The walls are furry…
  • Staff was friendly and efficient, we only had a bit of difficulty getting their attention because we were hidden in the back darkest corner
  • The wait between Entree, Mains and Dessert were okay, though it could be better. We were just a little miffed that a couple of the other tables who ordered after us were served before us.

So maybe I won’t be going back there any time soon, but I wouldn’t mind going back (when I’m actually working full time) ~

Fu Restaurant Degustation Dinner

Fu RestaurantI’ve been so busy these couple of weeks with my exams (which I’ve just finished Tuesday), and also with organising the degustation dinner for Fu Restaurant in Perth, Northbridge! First of all, what the heck does “Degustation” mean? I didn’t actually find out for myself until that very night and had a Wandering Gormet explain it to me. To put it quite simply, degustation means a little bit of quite a few of the yummy stuff the chef prepares just for you, which in turn allows you to taste a variety of food in one sitting… hrmm, that still sounds confusing eh? =)

Penneigh from WanderingGormet.net already wrote a great review of the dinner at Fu Restaurant in Perth (click here to read the article) so I won’t go into any details. There’s also some really great photos of the food served as well as the premises found on flickr thanks to WanderingGormet.net

Fu RestaurantThe event turned out quite nicely even with the few hiccups and late comers. I’m even happy to say that I may have been the thorn and cause of great stress to the dear Mr Foo on that eventful night! That’s not to say he didn’t give me a few extra frown lines either, the 10 dishes somehow turned into 12 and the order on the menu was not adhered to! Just as we learn in good ol’ Marketing: “Garbage in, Garbage out“, meaning your results are as good as the data you enter. So in this case, the data might not be as reliable when the respondents are confused about what dish is what….

To be honest, I didn’t know how the whole thing would turn out and was a bit uneasy, not only because of all the tension I could feel rolling off Mr Foo either. Now that the event is all over with and people parted with smiles and a full tummy, I’m sure that next time I’m in a similar situation things will run much smoother. I’ll also know that no matter how much planning is put in, something will not go according to plan!

Thanks again to all those who attended and filled in the survey!~

Fu (富) Restaurant

Fu 富Let’s take a sneak peek, behind the scenes of Fu (富) Restaurant in Perth, Northbridge. I finally got my paws on the pre-opening photos of the place which I wasn’t allowed to post until after the opening. Makes a lot more sense when you see the vast numbers of people jumping around the newspaper covered windows in an attempt to score a peek of the interior.

When I went away last year to Beijing, I was really disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to go to the Grand Opening of Fu Restaurant in Northbridge. But as fate would have it, unluckily for Mr Foo, delays pushed the opening until yesterday night! Although the official Grand Opening won’t be until next month, I figured it is as good time as any to go and try out the ‘Fu (富) fusion experience‘ before it gets busier with more people discovering the place!

Fu 富I’ve been to Fu a few times before it actually opened the doors and was impressed by the spiffy looking décor. I just love the water feature and the bar/lounge feel of the place!

Fu 富
Fu 富 Since I was lucky enough to actually test taste a few goodies, and Mr Foo’s description of the meals provoked my curiosity, I was excited to find out more! I’m not exactly sure if I’ve ever been to an official Fusion restaurant before, a lot of the nicer restaurants around Malaysia have been attempting to mix a bit of West into their experience but the food has always been very much either Asian or Western. So now it was my chance to try out FFF (Fu’s Fusion Food – sorry, my lame-self just couldn’t resist)!

Our initial table for 4 ended up being a table for 8, this was pretty handy because it meant that we could taste test more of the items on the menu! Unfortunately we were a little too ambitious, we didn’t realise the Tapa’s and Mains had decent sized servings and ended up stuffing ourselves! What can I say, the food was just too YUM to resist! =P

I’ve taken down photos of the dishes because the presentation of the meals has since changed. It looks more aesthetic now =)

Seriously though, I’ll be going to Fu 富 a lot more because I plan to try everything on the menu! hAHa funny thing is, that might be the only way I get to see more of Mr Foo since he’s a busy little bee with this new opening =D

Once again, a HUGE Congratulations to Mr Chung Foo! You’ve done an amazing job!!

Dinner @ Bella Rosa

Dinner with the gang found us at Cafe Bella Rosa, the cozy italian restaurant which we were meant to go to the last time but it was booked out.

CAFE BELLA ROSA
897a Albany Hwy
Victoria Park

Our table was tucked away in the corner in which they fit all 7 of us on the table for 5/6 because 2 people gave an extremely last min notice blee

For starters, the Chilli Mussels were really yummy! And the garlic bread was a little tough and not at all toasty. The mains were very filling … depending on which one you ordered and how much you can eat. Perhaps they just put less with the seafood options? Other than that, I didn’t hear of any complaints about the meal itself.

The place was really busy throughout the night and the tables were placed a little bit too close together (the restaurant itself is quite small). So when coffee and cake arrived a bit slow, or not arrive at all, it was no suprise.

And of course, a night out with this bunch always ends in some sort of alcohol induced situation. Peer pressure is horrible and so, I ended up cancelling my plans for the rest of the night for a night of um… interesting videos o_o

Sorry, I can’t post up any more photos. The main reason being that my camera ran out of memory and battery, the other being that what little photos we took (that weren’t “accidentally” deleted) are drunken moments not meant to be posted (plus I’ld get some serious asS whooping!!!!).
