Shinhwa – ‘State of the Art’ and ‘Volume 9′

State of the Art

Below is the music video of Once in a Lifetime from their State of the Art album.

It’s funny, watching the mv reminds me of all the ‘Boy Bands’ (Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Five etc etc) back in high school. But one of the reasons why I prefer kpop is because their music videos are more entertaining… Shinhwa had some pretty impressive dance moves in their younger days…

If only we could combine Shinhwa’s dancing from their early years and their singing in the later years?

Shinhwa - State of the art

Once In a Lifetime no doubt is worth listening to multiple times as it comes in the form of an explosive dance track that has been chosen as official SBS World Cup song. Another recommendable track is Highway Star – a rap song that is accompanied by the seductive vocals of newcomer IVY. Also coming with a special 44-page photo booklet, Shinhwa’s addictive new State of the Art release has already crossed sales of 100,000 copies and continues to stay solidly posted in the pop charts.

Volume 9

Below is the full version of Shinhwa’s RUN music video (with dialog), from the 10th Anniversary Concert.

To commemorate their achievement, Shinhwa presents a special limited edition of their ninth album. The album features a bevy of some of the best talents in the industry such as esteemed composer Kwon Tae Eun and his team of “ThePlayDoG”, Lee Sang In who previously wrote Shinhwa’s Your Man and Lee Min Woo’s Beeya, and Vink of Monotonic. Composed by Kim Jae Suk of Wanted and penned by Choi Gaap Won, Dashi han beonman (“Just One More Time”) is a lush string-infused R&B ballad with a moving chorus featuring all of Shinhwa’s six members.

Shinhwa – Volume 9 Track List

  1. Last Train Home
  2. Voyage
  3. 다시 한번만
  4. Free Style #1
  5. Run
  6. 2 Ma Luv…

  8. So In Love
  9. 기억나니?
  10. 아직 못 다한 이야기

Go to the official website for Shinhwa’s 10th Anniversary and check out their video clips. (warning: almost everything is in Korean)

To be honest I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to listen to Shinhwa’s Volume 9… Maybe just track2 (Voyage) and track 10, and possibly track 3 when I’m in a sad mood. If I had to choose between State Of The Art or Volume 9, I would definitely go with State Of The Art!

Mr Bean goes to the Dentist

What started off as just a general comment about dental pain and/or fear turned into how the media enjoys portraying the stereotypical dentist as a sadistic male know it all.

… Mr Bean… what more can I say? punch

Stargate: SG1, Atlantis… Universe!

How much do I love my Stargate series? Enough to still be watching it! hyper love

Stargate Universe (SGU) has only just started out so it’s still too early for me to work out whether I’ll hate it or love it. It’s riding pretty heavily on the reputation of the previous Stargate series, in fact, if I didn’t watch SG1 or SGA (Stargate Atlantis) I would have probably given up on SGU already…

I suppose it’s a bit difficult to make things exciting when a bunch of people are stuck on an Ancient ship that’s falling apart and they can’t control… The story seems awfully similar to SGA in that they’re occupying an Ancient ship/base, and it’s typically “Stargate-ish” in that they go through the gate exploring other planets.

According to wikipedia, SGU has the potential to be quite dull as they focus more on ‘character development’.  I’m just waiting for the introduction of an antagonist to see if they can top the Goa’uld, Wraith, Ori or Replicators! But I suppose it’ll be pretty hard to do if they don’t plan to have a dominant ‘enemy’.

We shall see…

Pre-Travel Research

As many of my friends know, I like to research. It sounds harmless enough, researching is handy to make sure you know exactly what you’re talking about, or eating, or seeing, or getting into etc. The trouble comes when you research excessively to the point you think the stuff is rubbish and write your own account… I’m just a tad like that, not that far gone yet.

It wasn’t always like this, but the 6 years in tertiary education rewired my brain in it’s quest for knowledge (and I suspect a touch of PD too). Prior to this I was quite content with the answer of “Just Because”.

Anyway, this is my round-about excuse for my lack of updates as of late. I keep getting lost in my Pre-Travel Research for Cambodia and Thailand.

After you decide on a destination (which takes some research in itself), there’s a whole list of things to look into for each location (less countries = less research):

  • Accommodation – location, hotel vs hostel, reviews
  • Activities – type (leisure or extreme), location, cost, reviews
  • Dates – availability
  • Government Warnings – smartraveller
  • Insurance – budget vs comprehensive
  • Itineraries – self plan vs tour
  • Payment Options – Cash, Credit, Direct, Deposit, T/T
  • Registration - smartraveller
  • Safety Precautions – reviews, smartraveller
  • Sites to See – wikitravel, Canby (Cambodia)
  • Vaccinations - Chikungunya fever, Dengue fever, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Hepatitis, Cholera, AIDS/HIV, Giardia, Salmonella, Typhoid…

To be quite honest I haven’t looked up much for Phuket because it seems to be well travelled. Siem Reap on the other hand has lots for me to look into… And now that it’s near my departure date, I’ve found myself some extra things to organise.

Cambodia itself has an extremely harsh history, and even now it is still struggling to form solid foundations for their most basic of needs.

I stumbled across the Angkor Hospital for Children, established by a NGO called Friends Without a Border, either through a review site or travel log… As a health professional, Angkor Hospital for Children really hits close to home because I know first hand how ignorance to the most basic preventive measures (washing hands, brushing teeth! etc) can affect someone’s life.

Anyhow, I’ve somehow turned my planned trip to see the Angkor ruins into a more meaningful experience. It’s a bit last minute but I’ve scrounged up some toothbrushes, toothpaste and my clinics old instruments for donation.

Now let’s just hope I get everything done on time with no hiccups!

RIP Michael Jackson

I didn’t want to blog about the death of Michael Jackson since there’s so many tributes and messages etc. But at the same time it felt incomplete without some sort of mention, his presence has left a huge impact on the entertainment industry afterall (I’m talking international scale) … I mean, who doesn’t know the moonwalk and the crotch grab? meH You know what, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the one who influenced c-walk and c-slide…

Anyways, I’ve tried to find a video which has a good mix of Michael Jackson hits (it’s a lot harder than I thought)… this is still missing some of my favourites, but it’s the best mix I’ve come across so far~
